Some changes to Retro BBS are coming
Good evening to all my fellow Retro BBS enthusiasts!
A glorious three-day weekend is upon us — and you know what that means: it’s time to fire up the editor and dive back into building the BBS.
A couple of weeks ago, I made the decision to undergo a major refactor of the Retro BBS project. Yeah, I know — it pushes the release timeline back a bit, but I truly believe these changes will create a more stable, extensible, and enjoyable experience for every user who dials in.
So, what’s changing?
First and foremost, I’ve migrated the entire project from Python to C# with .NET Core 9.0. This shift gives us:
- More precise control over system resources
- Easier integration with upcoming components (like door games, AI modules, and dynamic menus)
- Improved performance and multi-user concurrency
- Better long-term scalability and developer tooling
It’s a serious upgrade — and one that sets the foundation for the future of the board.
Also, in honor of the ever-expanding “42 Universe”, I’ve renamed the project from Retro BBS to RB42 — joining the ranks of DM42 and other upcoming 42-based systems. This gives us a consistent identity across projects and a bit of that retro-futuristic flair we love.
So hang tight, stay hyped, and know that great things are coming.
And hey — if you want to contribute, collaborate, or just toss ideas into the mix, hit me up!
Happy Computing,
Babble Baz
