FantasyUprising — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 10, 2025
Who we are
FantasyUprising (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at https://fantasyuprising.com and the Retro42BBS service (accessible through the website). This Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information across the Site and Retro42BBS (together, the “Services”).
What this covers (Scope)
This Policy applies to:
- Visitors and users of fantasyuprising.com (the “Site”).
- Users who access Retro42BBS via the Site, including SysOp Chat and other interactive features.
If anything here conflicts with a product-specific notice we present in the Services, that notice controls for that feature.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Accounts & profiles (Site or BBS): username/handle, display name, any profile details you choose to provide.
- Comments & posts (Site): the content of your comments, plus the name and email fields you submit.
- SysOp Chat (Retro42BBS): the content of messages you send and our responses (for support and moderation). These messages may be mirrored to a private, access-controlled Discord channel for paging the SysOp.
- Contact & requests: any info you include when you email us or submit forms (e.g., support or deletion requests).
Information collected automatically
- Log and device data: IP address, timestamps, user agent, terminal/client or browser type, pages or menus viewed, and basic event logs (e.g., login/logout, error diagnostics).
- Cookies & local storage (Site): detailed below.
Media (Site)
If you upload images, avoid embedding location/EXIF data. Visitors may download and extract metadata from images posted publicly.
Cookies (Site)
- Convenience cookies: If you leave a comment, you may opt to save your name, email, and website in cookies for one year.
- Session & login cookies: We set temporary cookies to check if your browser accepts cookies; if you log in, we set cookies for authentication and display preferences (typically 2 days to 2 weeks depending on “Remember Me”).
- Editor cookie: When editing/publishing, a cookie storing the post ID may be set for 1 day.
You can manage cookies via your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit some Site features.
Embedded content (Site)
Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the third-party site, which may collect data, set cookies, and track interactions subject to their own privacy policies.
How we use information
- Operate and improve the Site and Retro42BBS (including troubleshooting, analytics, and performance).
- Moderation and safety (abuse and spam prevention; enforcing house rules).
- SysOp Chat support: receiving your page, notifying the SysOp (e.g., via a private Discord channel), and sending replies back into your BBS session.
- Legal compliance and to protect our rights, users, and Services.
We do not sell personal data.
Sharing of information
We share information only as needed to operate the Services:
- Service providers we control (e.g., private SysOp Discord channel used solely for paging/alerts and replies; hosting and logging providers).
- Legal, safety, and rights protection: if reasonably necessary to comply with law or protect users, our Services, or the public.
Public content on the Site (e.g., approved comments) may be visible to visitors along with your chosen display name.
How long we keep information
- Comments (Site): kept indefinitely to recognize and auto-approve follow-ups.
- Accounts (Site/BBS): profile information is retained while your account remains active.
- Retro42BBS SysOp Chat: message logs are retained for operations, support, and moderation and then deleted or anonymized when no longer needed.
- Logs: technical logs (e.g., IP, timestamps) are retained for a reasonable period for security and diagnostics.
You can request deletion of your account and stored messages (subject to legal/operational limits).
Your rights & choices
- Access / export: request a copy of your personal data we hold.
- Deletion: request that we delete your personal data, subject to reasonable exceptions (e.g., security logs required for abuse prevention).
- Preferences: you can avoid using SysOp Chat if you do not want your messages stored for support; standard BBS features will remain available.

Children’s privacy
Our Services are intended for ages 13+ (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we learn a child has provided personal data, we will delete it.
International visitors
Our Services are operated from the United States. If you access them from other regions, you understand your information may be processed in the U.S., where laws may differ.
